Who said that second parts were not good?

Two weeks ago, I got my hands on a lens that I wanted to try since I knew it was going to be launched on the market.

When starting in this world of photography, there are two things that are super important to be able to take our first steps, the camera and the lenses. Once you decide on a brand of camera, the mental game of which lenses are the ones you need begins.

Of which there are an infinite number to choose from.

In the past, each camera brand had its own lineup of lenses, which, it must be said, were not cheap. With the passage of time, lens brands began to enter the market, which at an economic level, gave a good respite to the pocket, of course, with the difference in price, there is always that strange feeling that cheap can be at the end expensive.

Nothing could be further from the truth when we include Tamron in this equation.

Since I started to improve and expand my photographic equipment, I have always taken my time to decide which are the best focal lengths and apertures to get the most out of my photography, but at the same time not to leave me with an empty pocket.

And this is where Tamron comes into my photographic life.

I started by acquiring my most prized lens, the Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8, then I felt like acquiring something a little wider, and that's when I got my hands on the second Tamron lens, in this case the 17-28 F/2.8. I must add that these two lenses have already accompanied me to many places and both have given me great pictures and moments.

After a while, I got curious and I said to myself, why not buy a 70-200, when I saw the prices of this lens I almost fell backwards, and that's when Tamron comes to the rescue again with its 70-180 F/2.8, one of the lenses that I have loved to use the most.

Unfortunately, the first version of this lens wanted to make a Bungie jump from my camera bag and ended up breaking into several pieces.

Since that incident, I have been waiting and excited for the arrival of the second version of the Tamron 70-180 f/2.8 G2 lens, and voilà, two weeks ago I got my hands on this beauty of a lens.

Before I start with the review of this lens, let me first show you a little bit of what I was able to capture with this beauty of a lens.

Let's get into the details.

  • The lens offers an exquisite F/2.8 aperture, which is going to give us a beautiful bokeh (makes our background come out blurry).

  • A 70mm focal length is fully retracted to 180mm at its maximum extension.

  • It incorporates the zoom-lock, which prevents the lens from extending while in our backpack, which could cause an unwanted accident.

  • A vibration compensation, which allows us to go at slow speeds without having any shake in our photos.

  • Incredibly fast autofocus

  • This new model comes with a customisable button, which through the tamron plug-in can be set to perform three different functions.

  • It goes without saying that this lens feels very solid in the hands when shooting, it is light and most importantly, easy to use with one hand.

  • It is also waterproof (please don't take it swimming).

Here are some more examples of photos taken with this lens.....

Now the technical part...

This is a lens with which we can get close to a distance of 30mm at its minimum extension of 70mm, which will allow us to take some great close-ups (with a 70-180mm close-ups? Wow), at its maximum extension of 180mm we can get close to our subject at a distance of about 85mm.

This is a lens I wanted to get my hands on during the fall season, mostly to see how it performed with colors, sharpnees and in focus at specific points.

With colors, in the photos I managed to take with this lens, in none of them I could notice color aberrations, which is great, since many times in post-processing it is a bit difficult to eliminate.

The sharpnees, is something that also left me impressed, when approaching the photographed objects, I could notice that the detail is not lost, even taking pictures at its maximum extension of 180mm.

The focus is simply wonderful, how fast it focuses, it doesn't make any sound when focusing and once you focus elsewhere and return to the subject, it corrects the focus area quickly.

This is a lens that works almost by itself.

Otherwise, I can only say, if you are looking for a comfortable lens, both in price and when it comes to shooting, this is the lens to choose.

Tamron is doing a great job in producing lenses for the photographic field, I can't wait to see what the next lens to receive a new version will be.
